Did you know, that around 150 people are killed each year by falling coconuts, according to Uncle Google!! Its been very windy on Yorke island for the past few days and every now and then you hear a loud bang or crash.....coconut falling from a tree. Makes you kinda nervous!!!! Coconut palms can grow to 25m in height and coconuts can be 2kg in weight. No more sitting under coconut trees for me. Still, they are very interesting plants, and grow from coconuts that fall to the ground and remain there. There are hundreds sprouting all around the island, especially along the beachfront.
Today we a quiet day, a bit of home schooling with Ben while Amy was at school. At 4pm I had a lovely chat with my sister Louise on Skype. It went so fast, we only had half an hour to chat. But I walked down to the beach with the computer and showed Lou around the beach. It was so nice to share it with someone special. Thanks Lou....
Amy came home with a couple of friends today and they played UNO on the front verandah. Its great to see her making new friends and enjoying time with new people. I love hearing them giggle together.
When Rob arrived home at 5pm, we did a trip down to the jetty again. Its seems to be our "thing". The seas were up tonight and some white caps being whipped up by the winds. The water still looks inviting and is warm despite the outside temperature. So Amy had a ball jumping off the jetty into the water below.
Its a peaceful time of night as the sun goes down on the sea. I am still waiting for my sunset photo opportunity but the clouds have made it a bit tricky. There is a customs boat moored off the shore and has been there for the past week. Each day some of the crew come ashore to have a walk along the beach. We have met them each evening as we fish and swim around the jetty....we are all creatures of habit. Tonight we didn't have any of the local kids with us so it was a nice time for the 4 of us to connect and just natter about the day and our experiences so far.....this is my "photo of the day"........until tomorrow, Yawo
