Today was a relax day for me....not that the others have been particularly strenuous! Ben had a chemistry exam to do this morning before he was collected by Pensio, one of the elders on the island. He was all set to take Ben out crayfish hunting. They headed out in a tinny around the back of Yorke Island across to Crocodile Island where Ben said the reef was just amazing. He saw heaps of different fish and coral life and between he and Pensio they caught about 46 crayfish! Ben arrived home at about 4pm and presented us with his catch.
Wow!!! Hunter and Gatherer! 6 crayfish and a beautiful coral trout that Ben said he spotted under a coral bomie. Yum Yum. It sounded like he had an amazing day. Its such a great experience for both Ben and Amy. To stretch their wings and try new things and be immersed into this culture. I think its a great time for Ben, in his teenage years, while h eis trying to figure out who he is, to have the chance to see what he is capable of. I am so proud of them both for the way they have embraced this adventure!
Once everyone had come home, to me lying on the couch reading a book.....we took off to the jetty for our nightly swim / fish. Tonight we had 6 kids in the back of the ute, as well as our own two. And were met by another couple of boys on the beach. The kids all raced around the jetty with goggles and snorkles, laughing and chasing each other. Its a lovely sociable atmosphere, especially for the kids. Rob was trying to catch another shark off the beach and had a couple take his line, but was unable to land any tonight. Its a huge source of excitement when the line strains with all the kids gathered around him. So no fish caught tonight but a great catch from Ben earlier. Tonight we had delicious mullet caught off the beaches by Pensio a couple of days ago.....delicious. Another day of island life slips by......Yawo
