TGIF

A lovely relaxing island day today. I was invited into the clinic to review a couple of wounds. It was good to be part of the general comings and goings of the health centre and to meet a couple of the island Nannas or Aka's, as they are known here. They all speak English well but once the health worker comes in they talk Creole and there are still only a couple of words I understand...I guess once I start working on Darnley Island I will learn pretty fast!

On our walk today we came across an old dug out canoe, lying high up on the beach. Its hard to imagine these being used to cross vast water and also for fishing, but I guess this is the traditional way. I am sure they are a lot more stable in the water than they look on land

Tonight we invited Robyn, the regular RAN and Annie one of the health workers for dinner. Robert made one of his delicious curry's and Robyn bought some wine!! I hugged her, new best friend!! It was a very interesting night with Robyn telling us amazing stories of her many years in the Torres Strait islands, back before she had a vehicle, when she would collect some patients in a wheel barrow to bring them to the clinic! Amazing stuff.

The weather here is strange tonight, its been hazy all day and cool at times ( well as cold as it could get really, those in Meringandan would scoff at that comment!) Tonight its very windy. As Robyn left she said the strong wind was very unseasonal.....is there something in the air, or have we talked too much about puri puri tonight ( island black magic)?? Yawo
